NumevaAstrology reads the sky at the moment you were born — where the Sun, Moon and planets stood, seen from your birthplace, to the minute. Numerology reads two things you were given: your date of birth and your name, turned into numbers by fixed rules. Astrology asks "what was the pattern of the sky?"; numerology asks "what is the arithmetic of you?". The practical difference: astrology needs your birth time and place and produces a chart of dozens of moving parts; numerology needs a date and a name and produces a handful of numbers you can check with a pencil. Both describe temperament and timing; neither predicts events. If your question is "what am I like and when is the ground favourable?", both answer it in their own vocabulary. If your question is "will X happen on Tuesday?", neither does, whatever the app says.

That last row is the one that decides most people's preference. A natal chart is rich and opaque: you rely on the astrologer or the app. A numerology chart is simple and transparent: two apps that disagree are checkable, and one of them is wrong (usually about master numbers — see how to calculate the Life Path).
What each is good at
Astrology is better at nuance and at time. The sky changes every minute, so astrology has a natural language for when: transits, returns, retrogrades. It also distinguishes people born hours apart, which numerology cannot — twins have identical numerology charts unless their names differ.
Numerology is better at clarity and at names. One number per question, readable in a sentence. It is the only system that reads the name as data: Expression, Soul Urge and Personality come from the letters, which makes it the natural tool for naming a child, a business or a project, and for the "should I change my name?" question. It also has its own clock — the personal year, month and day — coarser than transits but easy to plan with (the cycles guide).
Neither is good at prediction. Both describe a climate. A personal year 1 is a starting-year climate, not an instruction to quit your job; Saturn on your Sun is a pressure climate, not a car accident. Any app that turns either into "you will" has left the method.
Where they overlap
Both have a temperament typology (twelve signs; nine numbers plus three masters), both have compatibility readings, both have daily timing. In practice people use astrology for the relationship and identity questions ("why are we like this together?") and numerology for the decision questions ("which of these dates?", "what should this be called?", "what is this year for?"). Eastern astrology — the animal of the year — sits in between: it is a twelve-year cycle computed from the date alone, which is why Numeva includes it next to the numbers (the Year Animal pages) while leaving Western astrology out.
Why Numeva does numbers only
We made a deliberate product rule: only numbers. Everything in Numeva is computed from a date and a name with published rules, on the phone, with the working shown. Adding a natal chart would mean adding a birth time we do not want to ask for, an ephemeris we would have to trust, and a second vocabulary next to the first. Apps that bundle astrology, tarot and numerology exist and some are good (our comparison names them); they are wider and, in our experience, shallower in each system. If you want astrology, use an astrology app. If you want numerology done fully — all five core numbers, cycles, name schools side by side, compatibility, the Destiny Matrix — that is what this one is for.

FAQ
Is numerology more accurate than astrology?
They cannot be compared on accuracy because neither predicts outcomes; both describe temperament and timing. Numerology is more checkable — the arithmetic is public — while astrology is more detailed. Accuracy in the scientific sense has not been demonstrated for either; treat both as structured self-reflection.
Can I use numerology without knowing my birth time?
Yes. Numerology never uses the birth time. That is one reason people who do not know their time of birth (a very common gap) prefer it: the Life Path and every other number need only the date and the name.
Does my zodiac sign match my Life Path number?
There is no mapping between the two; they are computed from different things (Sun position in the year versus the digits of the whole date). Sites that assign "the number for Aries" are inventing a correspondence.
Which is older, astrology or numerology?
Astrology as a practice is older by millennia (Babylonian). Pythagorean numerology in its modern form dates to the early twentieth century, building on Greek number mysticism; the Chaldean letter table is older. Age is not evidence for either.
Does Numeva include astrology?
